MyIPO hosted the Seminar on Geographical Indications which was organized by European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Intellectual Property Academy. This seminar is one of the bilateral activities between the EU and South-East Asia under the IP Key SEA Project.
The objectives of this seminar were to raise awareness among GI producers and associations on the overview of GI Protection System in Malaysia and the mechanism of maintaining and controlling registered GI products.
Deputy Director General (Strategic and Technical) of MyIPO, Mr.Zulkarnain Muhammad, in his speech said that MyIPO had received a total of 110 local GI and 9 foreign GI applications and there are 76 local GIs and 7 foreign GIs which were successfully registered since 2011.
